Well, I wrote a few clever words about all the things I have been busy doing over the last week or two... then the whole block of text disappeared... I even ended with a quote. I guess I will just skip the rest and leave you with the quote... "Creativity doesn't wait for that perfect moment. It fashions it's own perfect moments out of ordinary ones." - Bruce Garrabrant

Things have been very busy lately. I have had more design work and besides that I have been busy with my personal project. I have also continued to participate in the #inktober challenge. Here is one of my favorite ink drawings from last week. I've been working so much on both design and illustration lately that I am feeling just a tiny bit burned out. Normally any moment I have that isn't filled with activity with kids or house or cooking or 'other'... I immediately rush to use it for drawing/designing/painting time. This weekend I just couldn't bring myself to walk toward the computer or drawing table. I can't avoid it long though, because I start feeling like I'm wasting time. There is a tiny voice inside me that will not let me rest. So, more work will probably appear here soon. Thanks for reading... MM I've been busy with several art projects lately, some are mine and some are for others. Right now I am having a great time with the Inktober challenge that was begun a few years ago by Jake Parker. I am doing a small ink drawing each day in October.
I usually don't work in ink. Not because I don't enjoy it, but because I like it too much! It's addictive. I get in the mode of wanting to go ink over all my pencil sketches, but I decided a long while back that I needed to pursue a different style because my ink work seems to hard and graphic for what I want to do. I also can't do color well with ink work and I do enjoy painting my work in order to 'finish' it. Regardless of all that, I am certainly having fun doing this challenge. It's also nice to do work that is not for any real purpose, just for fun. Thanks for reading, MM Hello All, Tonight just a little painterly treat featuring a fox and girl. I know I am not the only one who has a thing for owls, and foxes are just as popular these days. But I have always liked seeing foxes in illustrations. I layered on some major texture into this one because I felt the simple forms would need something extra. I also ended up going a bit blue so that it seems (to me anyway) to be a night-time scene. It was fun and I have been itching to do more work lately, though time at the computer is hard to come by. I've got tons more sketches in the works, just have to find the time to work them up for your viewing pleasure.
Thanks for reading! MM Well, I have had my computer back for several days and have been itching to do some painting on one of my many sketches that have been waiting. I had some graphic design jobs for friends to work on first. Finally I got a bit caught up and had time for fun. I have had high hopes for this scarecrow ever since I first sketched him a few weeks ago. I am not totally happy with the whole illustration yet, but I liked it enough to share it 'as is'. I am not sure if I will take the time to go back and finish it any more or go on for now to other sketches.
I love fall so much I can't stand it! I often feel tempted to move somewhere in the country where fall weather actually occurs earlier in the year. Here we are happy that the temps have dropped to the low 90's and sometimes even mid-80's. It's nearing the end of September and I am hoping for better weather soon. The sad thing is that I begin expecting the brisk fall air as soon as August and some years we don't get the first cool days until October and I recall the year I became a mom- it didn't get cool until a week before Thanksgiving. I am afraid if I moved somewhere for the better fall weather I would also get winters with endless snow. I don't know if a Louisiana girl like me can handle that! Thanks for reading! MM I'm back! I know you all missed me. Actually...you probably didn't notice that I was gone, this being a blog and gaps being normal and all. I noticed! I have been computer-less for two weeks while waiting for the right part to come for repairs. Actually my husband repaired one broken part after only one week and somehow managed to break another part while doing so. Now that part has also been replaced and I am back in action!
The time wasn't entirely wasted art wise of course, I did do some good sketches while I was 'unplugged'. Some of those were for the big mystery project I keep mentioning and others you may see popping up here for a few weeks. For one whole week I was depressed because I had been very excited about my progress lately with digital painting and it all came to a screeching halt so suddenly that I really felt discouraged. There are a million ways to discourage an artist I guess, one of those ways can be with faulty hardware. I guess it makes me sound weak to say that I can get bummed that easily, but it was sort of yet another blow in a series of let-downs you might say. Anyway, I hope the computer continues to work now for a while and I will go get busy on a new piece. Thanks for reading, MM Just a colorful little fella I did this weekend. I am a collector of owls and I like to try to make creative little guys like this one. I will be making this print available for sale. Proceeds from print sales will go toward some art classes I hope to take about lighting and color choices.
Click here to order 12 x 12 print. Price $15 Thanks, MM Here is a little deer I did in a hurry today while testing out a new scanner. For many years I have been using a camera to get my sketches to digital form and finally I today I have a scanner to use for this purpose. I am hoping to retain more of the energy of my original pencil sketches this way and also save some time that I was spending redrawing every sketch on Photoshop with the Wacom pen. Time will tell if this is a major improvement or not. I am pretty sure it will be a worthy change.
Thanks for reading Well, I haven't been posting much this week because I am in the middle of a 'spring cleaning' of sorts. It's really the prep for fall so it should be called 'fall cleaning'. School has started back for most and ours gets kicked off in a week or so. I have a huge amount of work that I have set out for myself to do before then so this is just a quick note and a sketch (a couple of pilgrims to match the coming season).
I also have a few freelance design jobs in the works so I've been taking time out to work on those each morning also. Maybe in a few weeks the dust will settle on the design work and the massive decluttering and school will get going and I can get back to sketching and digital painting. Can't wait! Thanks for reading, MM |
MistyThanks for stopping by. I'm a published illustrator working on getting better every day. My goal for my work is for it to be charming, bright and endearing. I share my ongoing work progress online because I welcome all the encouragement and feedback I can get as I try to improve my skills. I currently have a children's book project that I am nearing the end of. Archives
